DESPAIR - the last piece in the puzzle for the Heaven CD is finally complete!!

The soul retreats to an embryonic state, a barren, open, exposed place. A grain of sand in a massive, all white space, no sense of direction. Fear, dread, even irrational terror and despair mix with a growing sense of hope and light.

Between the Veils of Mortality

The paths are traveled
For that is why we live... to journey.
In the shadows of death, fear lines the halls,
And in the canyons the demons call.
The last breaths are the most mysterious;
The most frightful ones of them all.
The veil is breached
The back path grows dim,
But a faint trail of light
From the crossover's rim.
Life interests wane,
A shroud falls between
A new journey beckons
One never seen.

SILENT NIGHT, HOLY NIGHT - A warm, tender, and slightly jazzified arrangement of this traditional holiday song. I hope it might give you a moment of peace and time to reflect on what's important to you. I've always wanted to do an arrangement of Silent Night with some lush strings and some jazzier chords and undercurrent. This sort of just came tumbling out of me, it was recorded in the span of about 90 minutes. There is a stereo piano track (RD-500), a fretless bass melody, 2 string parts and an "ahh" choir.

ABBY - A light, airy, happy tune, written in 2003 to honor the then-upcoming birth of my daughter. We played the partially completed tracks for her while she was still inside Mommy, and I wanted it to be the first music she ever heard in this world. We managed to pull it off wiht a boombox in the delivery room, even though it was not yet complete. It is now finished (8/05), and I'm very happy about it! - Featuring 2000 World Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Pete Huttlinger on guitars!

I attended the Swannanoa Gathering In July, 2005, and among the hundreds of brilliant musicians, songwriters, and technical artists that I met there, one who was very special to me was Pete Huttlinger. He was my instructor for one of the classes I took during the week, and he is simply flat AMAZING. He consented to provide two delightful guitar solos for this piece, and it really made it something special. Thanks for working with me, Pete!

BROWNSTONE - Inspired to recut this tune by my trip to the Swannanoa Gathering in July 2005; this is the 2nd work I've completed since then, again with Pete Huttlinger providing atmospheric, nuanced guitar work all throughout! This tune was written back in 1989, and was originally inspired by a trip to New York city; riding the train from Ossining to Grand Central on a rainy morning. As we passed through Harlem, I saw out my window the desolate apartment buildings, and the neighborhoods filled with poverty, anger, and desperation, but also with the fierce pride, dignity, and love of family intertwined. The mingled emotions brought this song to me on a damp wind...

THE SENTINEL - Another of the Ambient pieces for the upcoming Heaven CD, this one is over nine minutes of totally improvised solo piano!
